Observers of the institutional eclipse
Millions of people admiringly observed
the total eclipse of the sun on August 21.
In Nicaragua the sky was overcast
and the eclipse was only partial.
What is clear and observable here, however,
is the near total eclipse of institutionality.
Increasing numbers of people are seeing it.

The death of a CIA man
CIA informer Colonel Nicolás Carranza has died at 84,
after having left El Salvador for the United States in 1985.
In 2005 some of his Salvadoran victims filed charged against him.
He was ultimately found guilty of both supervising and ordering
crimes against humanity, extrajudicial killings and torture.
Carranza was incensed less by the accusations against him,
than by knowing he was on his own, found guilty alone,
abandoned by the US allies who conspired with him
to commit all those crimes.

Undocumented immigrants in the Trump era: Fears, resistance, strategies....and more
I traveled to two micro-universes,
Portland, Maine, and Manassas, Virginia,
to meet up with old and some new friends,
all of whom are undocumented immigrants.
I shared their work and learned their strategies,
and was happy to see all they had learned,
and how far they had all progressed.
I also learned about their many new fears
incited by Donald Trump’s rampant aggressions.
